Police have arrested Davie Malamula in connection with a robbery and assault case that occurred in Lilongwe City earlier this month.
In a statement, Deputy National Police Public Relations Officer Alfred Chimthere said Malamula is suspected to have been part of a group that attacked and robbed people at the junction leading to Kamuzu Central Hospital on March 2.
Chimthere explained that the group allegedly assaulted victims using panga knives before stealing cash and mobile phones.
“Investigations indicate that Malamula was among the group involved in the attack. He has since been formally charged and will appear in court soon,” Chimthere said.
Police further revealed that towards the end of last year, Malamula and some of his associates were also arrested for allegedly causing violence in other parts of Lilongwe.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing as they continue tracking down other suspects linked to the incident.
