The Rumphi First Grade Magistrate’s Court has sentenced Tambrin Mtawali, 27, to six years imprisonment with hard labour after finding him guilty of stealing six motorcycle engines worth K6.6 million.
State Prosecutor Sergeant Jimmy Banda told the court that Mtawali committed the offence on December 26, 2025, at Bale along the M1 Road while a vehicle was travelling from Karonga to Mzuzu.
The theft was reported to Chinyoro Police Unit, leading to investigations that resulted in Mtawali’s arrest on January 25, 2026. Police recovered four of the six stolen engines.
Despite pleading for leniency as a first offender and family breadwinner, the court convicted and sentenced him to six years imprisonment with hard labour.
