Rastaman Arrested for Cultivating Cannabis Without Permit

Police in Zomba have arrested a 48-year-old man for allegedly cultivating Indian hemp without a permit.
Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Andrew Mwale said the arrest followed an operation conducted by officers from the Criminal Investigations Department during the night of March 9 to 10, 2026 within the district.
Mwale identified the suspect as Clever Malinje, from Mzati Village under Traditional Authority Mulumbe in Zomba District.
According to police, Malinje allegedly cultivated sativa cannabis around his house. During the operation, officers also reportedly discovered two bags of cannabis, which were seized as evidence.
The confiscated substances have since been sent to Bvumbwe Research Station for further analysis.
Police say the suspect will appear in court soon to answer charges related to illegal cultivation of cannabis.
