Malawi Creative Industry Mourns Multi-Talented Entertainer Dee Trice

The creative industry in Malawi is mourning the death of Sangwani, widely known by his stage name Dee Trice or Jimmy, who died in Blantyre on Thursday evening.
Dee Trice was a multi-talented entertainer who worked as a music producer, actor, comedian, musician and content creator. Until his death, he was also serving as a deputy headteacher at Mtaya Mwana Primary School.
The Producers and Audio Engineers Association of Malawi (PAEAM) has described his passing as a huge loss to the creative industry.
In a statement, the association’s Communications Director Mphatso Chikalipo said Dee Trice made significant contributions to Malawi’s music production community as well as the education sector.
Dee Trice was also well known in Malawi’s entertainment circles for his comedy and acting performances. He gained popularity through appearances on The Court on Malawi Broadcasting Corporation and the Mtumwi comedy series aired on Mibawa TV, where he showcased his acting and comedic talent.
Friends and fans have described him as a versatile entertainer who successfully combined acting, comedy and music, earning a growing following among viewers and comedy lovers.
Meanwhile, details surrounding his death remain unclear. Unconfirmed reports circulating online suggest that he may have taken poison following a personal heartbreak, although authorities have not officially confirmed the cause of death.
Dee Trice was based in Madzi Abango in Blantyre.
