Eight Arrested in Karonga Crime Crackdown

Police in Karonga have arrested eight men aged between 15 and 58 during an intelligence-led operation aimed at reducing crime in the district.
The operation, conducted on March 13, 2026, was carried out by officers from Malawi Police Service at Karonga Police Station, targeting Karonga Township and Kaporo.
Those arrested have been identified as Elisha Munthali (15), Michael Mwenefumbo (19), Blessings Msiska (27), Emmanuel Msiska (32), Ephraim Kipandula (42), Washington Nyirenda (48), Peter Mhango (56) and Asumani Maziro (58).
According to police spokesperson Margret Msiska, the suspects are expected to appear in court soon to answer charges including possession of property suspected to have been stolen, theft, housebreaking, cattle theft and defilement.
Police say all the suspects come from areas under Traditional Authority Kyungu in Karonga District.
