Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, says he has temporarily left Uganda after spending nearly two months in hiding.
In a statement released on Saturday, Bobi Wine said he went into hiding shortly after the January presidential election, which he claims was rigged.
He said security forces had launched operations targeting him and members of his political camp, adding that authorities raided the homes of several of his colleagues while his own residence remained under heavy security surveillance.
According to Bobi Wine, he was able to evade the security forces with the help of his supporters.
The opposition leader said his temporary departure from Uganda will allow him to engage with international allies, but assured supporters that he intends to return to the country.
