Police Officer Arrested for Having Sex with a 16 Year Old Girl

Police in Kasungu have arrested one of their own officers for allegedly defiling a 16-year-old girl.
The suspect has been identified as Sergeant James Manguwale, 36, who is stationed at Kasungu Police Station. He is accused of having unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor who was born on 3rd January 2009.
According to a report made by the victim’s guardian, Olipa Mulenga, the incident began on 26th December 2025. The victim had accompanied her aunt to Kasungu Police Station regarding a land matter. While waiting, the suspect sent her to buy a bottle of kombucha at a nearby filling station.
It is alleged that after the errand, the suspect gave the minor a note containing his phone number and instructed her to call him once home. Following several phone calls, the suspect proposed to her, and she eventually accepted.
The two allegedly met at a rest house opposite National Bank, and later at an unfinished house in Kasalika location, where they had sexual intercourse.
The matter came to light when the victim’s uncle discovered suspicious messages on her phone. Upon questioning, she revealed the ordeal.
A medical examination conducted at Kasungu District Hospital later confirmed that the girl had been sexually assaulted.
The suspect has been arrested and is currently in custody. He is expected to appear in court soon to answer charges of defilement.
