Unconfirmed results from the Rumphi Central constituency by-election show that Mathews Mtumbuka of the United Transformation Movement (UTM) has won the parliamentary seat.

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is conducting the by-election following the election of Enock Chihana, who won the seat on September 16 last year, as the country’s Second Vice President.

Other candidates in the race include Licy Nkosi Kamwendo, an independent candidate, Moir Walita Mkandawire of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Paul Nyirenda of AFORD, and McDowel Chidumba Mkandawire of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is expected to make official announcement of the results once the counting and verification is done.
