The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) says it expects to release the results of Tuesday’s by-elections by 4:00 PM today.
MEC Director of Media and Public Relations, Sangwani Mwafulirwa, confirmed this in a statement issued yesterday.
He said the Commission has already received results from all four constituencies and eight of the nine wards involved.
The only pending results are from Mikongo Ward in Mangochi, where a vehicle transporting forms from one polling station to the Constituency Tally Centre got stuck in the mud.
Mwafulirwa said the challenge has now been resolved, and the results are on their way to the National Tally Centre in Lilongwe.
The Commission assured the public that all results will be compiled and announced promptly once the final forms arrive.
Mwafulirwa urged voters to remain patient as the MEC completes the verification process.
The announcement marks the final stage before the official declaration of winners in the recent by-elections.
