Two Arrested in Karonga with 70kg of Marijuana

Police in Kaporo, Karonga District, have arrested two men, Thomson Kamanga (36) and Michael Ziba (35), for allegedly being found in possession of 70 kilograms of marijuana without a permit.
Police spokesperson for the district, Margret Msiska, said the incident occurred today, March 18, 2026, after officers received a tip-off that the suspects were travelling from Karonga Town towards the Songwe border carrying three bags of marijuana.
“Police later arrested the two at Kiwe Market, where the marijuana was seized and taken to the appropriate office for analysis,” said Msiska.
Kamanga, who hails from Zayoli Village, Traditional Authority Mabulabo in Mzimba District, and Ziba, from Kanjiunde Village, Traditional Authority M’mbelwa in Mzimba District, are expected to appear in court on charges of possessing marijuana without a permit.
