Police at Kamwendo in Mchinji District have released Chipira Moses Chikanga, who was arrested earlier this week following the death of his girlfriend, Alinafe Mbewe, at a resthouse within Kamwendo Trading Centre.

According to police, the incident occurred when Alinafe suddenly collapsed in a room shortly after the two had just finished their second round of sex. Chipira is reported to have alerted the resthouse management, who then informed the police.

Officers initially arrested Chipira on suspicion of foul play after a bottle of Gondolosi contain was found in the room.

However, a postmortem examination conducted at Mchinji District Hospital established that Alinafe died due to low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).

Medical findings further revealed that she had a high level of alcohol in her system, and it was concluded that she had consumed alcohol on an empty stomach, which likely contributed to her condition.

Following these findings, police ruled out foul play and released Chipira from custody.

The remains of Alinafe Mbewe were laid to rest yesterday.
