Two Miners Killed After Pit Collapse at Mzimba Gold Site

Two men have died after the walls of a mining pit collapsed on them at the Dewe Gold Mining Site in Mzimba.

Deputy spokesperson for Jenda Police, Godknows Malema, said the incident occurred in the late afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Samson Kachikho (28) and Mazunzo Lingiton (38), who had gone to the site to mine gold.

Malema explained that when the pit walls collapsed, the two were buried under the debris. Fellow miners managed to rescue them and rush them to Jenda Rural Hospital, where they were pronounced dead upon arrival.

Kachikho hailed from Chipumbo Village, while Lingiton was from Kapyanga Village, both under Traditional Authority Wimbe in Kasungu District.
