ESCOM Appoints William Kaipa as CEO Amid Power Challenges

The Board of the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) Limited has appointed Engineer William Kaipa as Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 April 2026.
Board Chairperson Alfred Nhlema said the appointment was made on an urgent basis to help stabilise the power utility as it faces ongoing reliability challenges and implements key sector reforms.
Nhlema noted that Kaipa brings over 37 years of experience in the energy and infrastructure sectors, having held senior positions at Eskom and Airports Company South Africa (ACSA).
The Board expressed confidence that his extensive expertise will strengthen operational efficiency and accelerate infrastructure development within the corporation.
