Woman Arrested in Mangochi for Allegedly Stealing Friend’s Baby

Police in Mangochi have arrested a 26-year-old woman, Aisha Mary Wilson, on suspicion of stealing her friend’s five-month-old baby.
Mangochi Police spokesperson Amina Tepani Daudi said Aisha is suspected of taking the baby on March 18, 2026, from Katema in Mangochi.
“Our investigations have revealed that Aisha invited her friends, who are the child’s parents, to come to Mangochi Town to look for work. However, after staying for a few days without success, they decided to return to Katema,” said Daudi.
She added that on the day of their departure, Aisha allegedly asked to hold the baby but then disappeared.
Investigators say she was later apprehended in the Chimwala area, and the child has since been safely returned to her parents.
Police reports further indicate that Aisha is currently on police bail over a separate charge of child kidnapping in Makanjira in January 2026.
