Mother Arrested in Mwanza for Burning Child Over Alleged Theft

Police in Mwanza have arrested a 21-year-old woman, Milika Luciano, for allegedly burning her four-year-old child’s hand as punishment for stealing meat.

According to police spokesperson Hope Kasakula, the suspect used hot charcoal to inflict the injury on the child.

Reports indicate that the act was carried out after the mother was advised by neighbours, who claimed the punishment would stop the child from stealing food.

The matter came to light after it was reported to police, leading to Luciano’s arrest.

The suspect, who hails from Liwonde under Traditional Authority Kanduku in Mwanza, is expected to appear in court soon.
