Police in Lilongwe have arrested two suspects for allegedly keeping 42 bags of cannabis, each weighing about 70 kilograms.
Police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu has identified the suspects as Bernard Makwinja and Esther Kayenta, both reportedly from Blantyre.
According to Chigalu, the arrests were made on Thursday following a tip-off from members of the public that the suspects were storing the cannabis at a house in the Airwing area.
When police searched the house, the suspects failed to produce legal documents authorizing possession of the cannabis.
Authorities have since seized the drugs and taken them to Chitedze Research Station for analysis.
Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
