A man identified as Anderson Frank has died after drowning in Lake Malawi in Monkey Bay.

Monkey Bay Police spokesperson, Kondwani James, confirmed the incident, stating that the deceased met his fate on Sunday night after leaving a drinking place.

According to James, the man decided to follow fellow fishermen who were heading out to catch fish in the Msaka area. Upon reaching the lake, he reportedly took a boat and began his own fishing trip, intending to bring food back home.

However, police say the man was heavily intoxicated and failed to properly control the boat, causing it to capsize.

“Due to his intoxicated state, he was unable to paddle the boat properly, which led to the accident,” said James.

Other fishermen who witnessed the incident rushed to assist and took him to Monkey Bay Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The cause of death has been identified as suffocation due to drowning.
