The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has called on Parliament to compel the appearance of former Chief Secretary to the Office of the President and Cabinet, Colleen Zamba, along with other senior government officials, in the ongoing inquiry into the controversial purchase of the Amaryllis Hotel.

In a statement released after the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) announced it had concluded its investigations, HRDC expressed concern over the absence of Zamba, who is currently in South Africa and reportedly failed to appear on medical grounds.

HRDC Chairperson Michael Kaiyatsa emphasized that Zamba is a crucial witness in the matter, warning that her absence risks undermining the integrity and credibility of Parliament’s oversight role.

However, PAC Chairperson Steve Baba Malondera told journalists at Parliament that the committee is constrained by time, noting that lawmakers are approaching the end of the current sitting.

Parliament is expected to rise sine die on April 10, limiting the committee’s ability to extend the inquiry further.
