An unidentified man suspected to be a car thief crashed into the main gate of Sanjika Palace in Blantyre while attempting to flee from a pursuing crowd.
The suspect, who is currently being held at Chilomoni Police Station, is reported to have stolen the vehicle near Kudya Filling Station before speeding towards the Sanjika road.
He was driving a KIA Sorento, registration number BX 6231, and also collided with a Ford Ranger (MZ 7826J) near the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) offices. Reports indicate he reversed the vehicle after hitting the Sanjika gate in an attempt to escape.
A visit to the scene found a heavy police presence, including the Commissioner of Police for the South West Region, who assessed the damage caused during the incident.
Chilomoni Police have asked for more time before issuing an official statement on the matter.
