Musician Bandera Wachiyao Released from Prison

Malawian musician Abdul-Karim Saidi, popularly known as Bandera Wachiyao, has been released from prison today after serving his sentence.
Saidi was previously convicted by the Mangochi Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court and sentenced to three years imprisonment with hard labour for abducting a minor, an offence that contravenes Section 136 of the Penal Code.
Following his release, the artist expressed gratitude to his supporters, family, and friends who stood by him during his time in custody. He stated that the experience has been a period of reflection and personal growth.
Bandera Wachiyao has indicated that he is ready to begin a new chapter in his life, focusing on rebuilding his career and using his music to positively influence society.
He hails from Kalonga Village, under Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi District.
