Two Arrested in Mchinji Over Suspected Theft, AK-47 Rifle Recovered

Police in Mchinji have arrested two suspects, Gift Godfrey, 22, and Jackson Phiri, 19, on suspicion of theft after they were found in possession of stolen property.
Mchinji Police spokesperson Limbani Mpinganjira confirmed the development, saying the suspects were found with various household items, including a television set, shoes, and other belongings believed to have been stolen.
Mpinganjira added that police also recovered an AK-47 rifle without ammunition near the Ludzi River, which is suspected to have been used by the two suspects.
According to police, Godfrey hails from Shawa Village under Traditional Authority Khongoni in Lilongwe, while Phiri is from Poko Village under Traditional Authority Kawere in Mchinji.
The two are currently in police custody and are expected to appear in court soon to answer charges related to theft and illegal possession of a firearm.
