A 27-year-old man from Ntcheu District, Owen Macdonald, and his four-year-old son, Onesmus Macdonald, have died after consuming poison.
Ntcheu Police public relations officer Inspector Jacob Khembo said yesterday the man allegedly took the poison after a dispute with his wife and also gave it to the child.
The child was rushed to Ntcheu District Hospital and reportedly told people that his father had given him the substance before he died.
Owen was later found dead at his home and was taken to Ntcheu District Hospital, where medical results confirmed that he died due to poison ingestion.
Village Headman Jeckdec has described the incident as deeply concerning, saying this is the second suicide-related death to occur in his area this year alone.
