Prominent lawyer Alexious Kamangira has alleged that the committee investigating the sale of Amaryllis Hotel received money from a private individual to sabotage the investigation.
The claims are contained in a letter Kamangira wrote to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), requesting it to launch an inquiry into the matter.
In the letter, Kamangira states that the committee’s chairperson, Baba Steve Malondera, allegedly received K65 million from Pastor Clifford Kawinga. He further claims that Malondera distributed K3 million to each committee member, an amount the members were reportedly dissatisfied with.
Kamangira has also asked the Speaker of the National Assembly, Sameer Sulemani, not to allow the report on the hotel’s sale to be presented in Parliament, arguing that the committee’s work has been compromised by corruption and bribery.
However, in his response, committee chairperson Father Steve Malondera denied receiving any money from Pastor Kawinga. He said he would soon speak out and that the truth about the matter would be known.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday this week, Members of Parliament were divided over the issue of investigating the sale of Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre.
