Teacher Flees After Being Caught with Standard 8 Learner in Maize Field

Authorities in Salima have launched a manhunt for Danken Phiri, a teacher at Kapiri Primary School, who is currently at large after being caught in a compromising position with a 16-year-old learner.
The incident occurred on February 20, 2026, within the area of Senior Chief Kambwiri in the district.
It is reported that Phiri was discovered with the girl, a Standard 8 student at the same institution, in a maize field near the school premises at around 6:00 PM.
Reports further indicate that the two were caught by the girl’s fellow learners, who then alerted school authorities.
Following the discovery, school management moved to report the matter to the Salima Police Station. However, the suspect managed to flee the school as soon as he realized the matter had been reported to law enforcement.
District police have since intensified efforts to track down Phiri to answer charges related to the incident.
