Idris Elba has officially been knighted by King Charles III in recognition of his services to young people.

The acclaimed English actor, DJ, and rapper received the honour during a ceremony at Windsor Castle.

Born in London to a Sierra Leonean father, Winston Elba, and a Ghanaian mother, Eve, Sir Idris has long been an advocate for youth development and community empowerment.

Through his role as an ambassador for the King’s Trust and as co-founder of the Elba Hope Foundation, he has spent years supporting opportunities for young people.

Elba has previously revealed that a grant from the King’s Trust helped him launch his own career in the arts, a contribution he says played a key role in his journey to success.

Reacting to the honour, Sir Idris said: “We are thankful. The work continues.”

The knighthood marks another milestone in the career of one of Britain’s most celebrated actors, recognised not only for his achievements in entertainment but also for his commitment to empowering young people and strengthening communities.
