The Danish Football Association has confirmed that midfielder Christian Eriksen is in stable condition after collapsing during an international match on Sunday.
The incident occurred in the 65th minute of Denmark’s World Cup warm-up match, with Denmark leading 2-1 at the time. Medical personnel rushed onto the pitch to attend to Eriksen, raising concerns among fans and players alike.
Eriksen currently lives with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), a battery-powered device designed to monitor and regulate heart rhythms. The device was fitted after he suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro 2021 match against Finland, an incident that shocked the football world and temporarily halted the game.
Following the latest scare, the Danish Football Association assured supporters that the player is doing well and remains under medical observation.
The incident has reignited memories of Eriksen’s dramatic collapse at Euro 2021, when he was resuscitated on the field before making a remarkable return to professional football.
Reacting to the news, former football star Thierry Henry expressed concern and sympathy for Eriksen and his family.
“There are moments when football becomes completely irrelevant, and this is one of them,” Henry said.
He praised Eriksen’s courage in returning to elite football after his cardiac arrest, describing it as an extraordinary act of bravery.
“Most people cannot imagine the courage it takes to walk back onto a football pitch after coming so close to losing everything and still finding the strength to compete again at the highest level,” Henry said.
The football community has since rallied behind Eriksen, with fans, players and officials sending messages of support while awaiting further updates on his condition.
