A First Grade Magistrate’s Court in Chikwawa has ordered a 30-year-old man to pay K700,000 after finding him guilty of operating a clinic without a permit.
Chikwawa Police spokesperson Dickson Matemba said the court heard that Francis Kagone was running a clinic at Maperera Market without the required certification. Police investigations established that Kagone did not possess a certificate of eligibility authorizing him to operate the facility.
When he appeared before the court, Kagone pleaded guilty to the charge and asked for leniency, arguing that he had not wasted the court’s time by contesting the case and that he was a first-time offender.
In her ruling, First Grade Magistrate Annie Chikhadzula ordered Kagone to pay a fine of K700,000 or serve a two-year prison sentence in default. He has since paid the fine.
