Man sentenced to 60 years in Prison with hard labour for rape.
The High Court in Lilongwe has sentenced 26-year-old Chisomo Harold to 60 years imprisonment with hard labour for rape and 30 years for robbery, with the sentences running concurrently.
Lilongwe Police Publicist Inspector Hastings Chigalu said Harold committed the offences on May 1, 2026, at Area 46 in Lilongwe.
He said State Prosecutor Assistant Superintendent Richard Kandeya told the court that Harold and three accomplices, who remain at large, broke into a house armed with panga knives, metal bars and a hammer.
Harold and another suspect raped a woman in the presence of her husband and children before the gang stole K420,000 in cash, bicycles, mobile phones and other household items.
Justice Ken Manda handed down the sentence after considering the gravity of the crimes and Harold’s previous conviction for a similar offence.
