Kanengo Police Station has arrested four pharmacists from Area 25 Rural Community Hospital in connection with the alleged theft of 7,150 mosquito nets valued at K31 million.
Kanengo Police Station Public Relations Officer Sub Inspector Macfarlen Mseteka identified the suspects as Gift Deker, 32, Omega Malipa, 27, Bessie Lumbo, 30, and Clement Kamanga, 30.
According to Mseteka, hospital authorities launched an investigation after routine audits revealed persistent discrepancies in inventory records amid reports that some staff members were involved in the theft of hospital supplies.
The audit established that about 7,150 mosquito nets had gone missing, with no documentation indicating that they had been distributed to intended beneficiaries.
Mseteka said the four suspects were individually questioned over the missing nets but each allegedly shifted blame to the others, prompting hospital management to report the matter to Kanengo Police.
Preliminary investigations found no signs of forced entry or burglary, leading investigators to suspect insider involvement in the disappearance of the mosquito nets.
The suspects are expected to appear before court soon to answer charges related to the alleged theft.
