Police in Mzuzu have arrested five people in connection with the possession of suspected stolen property recovered from various locations in the city.
According to Northern Region Police spokesperson Cecilia Mfune, the suspects were arrested during overnight operations conducted in Katoto and Area 4.

Police say investigations are continuing to establish the origin of the recovered property and whether the suspects are linked to other theft-related cases in the city.
Meanwhile, images circulating on social media purportedly showing the suspects after their arrest have attracted widespread attention online.
The photos show some of the suspects with visibly swollen faces and injuries, prompting a wave of reactions from social media users. While some users have responded with jokes and humorous comments, others have raised concerns about the condition of the suspects and the circumstances surrounding their injuries.
Authorities have not commented on the viral images, and the circumstances that led to the suspects’ visible injuries remain unclear.
The suspects are expected to appear before court once investigations are completed.
