Man commits suicide in Mzimba

A 40-year-old man,Alick Kayira has died after taking poison at Jenda in Mzimba.
The incident occurred during the night of 22-23 June,2026 at Jenda trading centre.
Speaking to Power Online Jenda Police Public Relations Officer Sub-Inpector Gladwell Simwaka,indicate that, Kayira came to Jenda with his colleagues from Mzuzu for work and booked himself a room at a certain lodge within the trading centre.
“In the morning of June 23, 2026 he was discovered lifeless in his room by workers at the lodge.
“The matter was reported to Jenda police station where Detective police officers together with medical officer from Jenda Rural Hospital rushed to the scene and conducted postmortem which showed that death was due to respiratory failure, secondary to organophosphate poisoning”,narrated Simwaka.
The motive for taking his life has not been established.
Meanwhile,the police have advised people to avoid taking their own life whenever,they face challenges rather seek counselling and support from authorities.
Kayira hailed from Lalika village in T/A Kyungu in Karonga district and until his death he was working as a driver for Banja la Mtsogolo.
