Lilongwe Police Arrest Man Over Alleged Motorcycle Theft

Lingadzi Police Station in Lilongwe has arrested a 32-year-old man, Kennedy Chigwembere, for allegedly stealing motorcycles in incidents that occurred between April and July 2026.
Lingadzi Police Station Public Relations Officer Maria Kumwenda said that during the period, Chigwembere approached several motorcycle owners with what appeared to be a genuine business proposal. He allegedly claimed to have customers who required parcel delivery services and offered to hire the owners’ motorcycles.
Under the arrangement, he promised to pay the owners an agreed daily fee. However, instead of honouring the agreement, he allegedly sold the motorcycles and went into hiding.
Following several complaints lodged at Lingadzi Police Station, detectives launched a manhunt that led to his arrest.
During interrogation, Chigwembere allegedly admitted to the offences.
Police have so far recovered five motorcycles worth K12.3 million, all linked to the case.
Investigations are continuing to establish whether there are more victims and to recover any outstanding motorcycles.
Chigwembere hails from Mawira Village, Traditional Authority Ganya, in Ntcheu District.
