PP set conditions for an alliance with DPP: JB should not be arrested

Opposition People’s Party (PP) has set conditions for its looming alliance with the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) one of it being not to arrest former President Dr. Joyce Banda once she comes back from her self-imposed exile.

This was disclosed during a meeting PP MPs had with President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika at Kamuzu Palace in the capital Lilongwe.

Apart from that, PP MPs also bargained for two ministerial posts in Mutharika’s Cabinet with Jooma and recently fired PP acting leader Uladi Mussa (Salima South) as proposed names.

People’s Party secretary general Ibrahim Matola confirmed of the meeting in an interview with Nation Newspaper, saying was turned back at the gate under the pretext that the discussions had not reached party level.

Some of the MPs who attended the meeting includes; Noah Chimpeni (Nkhata Bay South East), Maquenda Chunga (Mzimba South), Ralph Jooma (Mangochi Monkey Bay), Beatrice Mwale (Kasungu North), Malani Mtonga (Karonga South), Kamlepo Kalua (Rumphi East), Wallace Chawawa (Zomba Chingale), Patricia Kayinga Nangozo (Zomba Central), Welani Chilenga (Chitipa North) and JB’s son, Roy Kachale (Zomba Malosa).
