DPP governor Charles Mchacha attacks Blantyre City Council for slashing maize

Governor for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for the South Charles Mchacha has accused Blantyre City Council (BCC) of de-campaigning President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika through the recent exercise of slashing maize in the city.

Mchacha’s accusations comes barely a week after DPP youth cadets attacked and injured BCC workers who were slashing maize along the Magalasi road.

Speaking in Blantyre during the ground breaking ceremony of Blantyre City by-pass road, Mchacha said some BCC officials are deliberately formulating bad by-laws in order to dethrone President Peter Mutharika and his government.

Mchacha pointed out the issue to do with demolishing of houses that are on restricted areas, stopping vendors from doing businesses along the roads and slashing of maize.

“It is inapplicable, mumawona anthu akumanga komanso kubzala koma osawalesa. Anthu mpaka athira feteleza obeleketsa ndipamene mukatchetcha m’mera wawo. That’s too bad,” said Mchacha.

But President Mutharika shunned Mchacha claims and concentrated on development projects.

“It is my expectation that the by – pass road will minimise traffic congestion in the roads of Blantyre City. It will also enhance movement of goods and people,” Mutharika said after the ground-breaking ceremony of the road.
