Blantyre Police publicist Ignatius Nkhwazi said police made the exercise with support from Catholic Development Commission (CADECOM).

According to Nkhwazi, two of the girls are aged 18 while three are 17 and they have all been brought back to their respective homes in Chiradzulo, Thyolo and Blantyre rural.

“There are people who allegedly coax the young girls to work in the commercial city of Blantyre as Kaunjika sellers, housemaids and etc. Upon their arrival in Blantyre, they are dumped in different bars and being told to seek ways for survival for themselves hence they start sleeping with different men and they are called “Vanette” since they look young, said Nkhwazi.

Meanwhile, police have warned the general public that it is an offence for people to involve themselves in such business of coaxing young girls into prostitution and once found, law shall take charge.
