Son Kills Mother in Mulanje

Police in Mulanje have arrested a 40-year-old man for killing his 75-year-old biological mother.

Mulanje police public relations officer Seargent Gresham Ngwira has identified the suspect as White Siyadi who comes from Mwasa village in the area of traditional authority Mthiramanja in the district.

According to Ngwira, the suspect who is said to be a chamba addict, has been staying with his mother for a long time at Mwasa, their home village.

“Yesterday morning, the man became uncontrollably violent threatening to kill the mother, Dorothy Salimu. As if this was just a usual talk, White took a log and hit his innocent mother in the head leaving her dead,” said Ngwira.

Following the incident an angry mob which comprised relatives, started assaulting the suspect before taking him to Nkando police unit.

Later relatives took the Dorothy to Nkando health centre where medical personnel declared her dead.

Postmortem results showed that Salimu died due to severe loss of blood.

Meanwhile suspect is still in custody and will appear in court soon to answer a charge of murder contravening section 309 of the penal code.
