Man Dies for Drinking on an Empty Stomach

A 41-year-old man in Nkhatabay has died after he excessively consumed alcohol on an empty stomach.

The wife to the deceased , Elida Phiri said her husband left home on Sunday, 6th August, 2018 for beer drinking at St. Maria Gorrette where he spent the whole night drinking without eating anything.

He was later found lying unconscious on the road side at Chintheche turn off Market and taken to Nkhatabay district hospital where he died upon arrival.

Postmortem was carried out at the facility and revealed that the death was due to hypoglycemia – a condition that arises when one excessively takes intoxicating substance without food.

Meanwhile, NkhataBay police is advising the general public to stop the tendency of drinking beer without eating for this will help in reducing such cases.
