Speaker Richard Msowoya dragged to court

Forum for National Development (FND) has sued Speaker of the National Assembly Richard Msowoya for violating Section 65 of the Malawi Constitution by joining United Transformation Movement led by State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima.

In the application made by FND on Wednesday through its lawyer Bob Chimkango, the grouping wants the High Court to stop Msowoya from executing his duties as Speaker of Parliament.

The grouping also wants the Speaker’s office to withdraw all his benefits he is entitled to when executing his job.

In the application, the Forum queried that by the Speaker voluntarily resigning from Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and joining (UTM) which is either an Association/Organization that is political in nature, he had crossed the floor.

The case is scheduled to commence on August 28, 2018 and will be presided over by Judge Tembo.

Meanwhile Msowoya is yet to comment on the matter
