Two Hospital Personnel Nabbed over Missing Microscope Worth K1Million

Police in Chikwawa have arrested two health workers at the district’s hospital who are suspected to have a hand in the missing of a laboratory microscope.

Chikwawa Police Station Public Relations Officer, Constable Foster Benjamin identified the two as Mark Moses, a laboratory technician and Nema Suzumile, a switchboard operator.

Benjamin said the two were arrested on Friday following the missing of a microscope valued at K1 million.

“According to Henry Banda, an assistant human resources officer at the hospital, one of the suspects, Moses, returned to the office in the evening following an emergency that needed laboratory services,” Benjamin said.

“He is said to have approached the second suspect, Suzumile and took the keys to the laboratory as a routine,” the police publicist added.

The police spokesperson reported that on arrival at the lab, Moses allegedly found the door already opened and the microscope missing.

“The issue was reported to police who immediately detained the suspects and they have since been charged with theft by servant,” he added.

Meanwhile, the two are being investigated and will appear in court as soon as all investigations are concluded according to police.

Moses, 28, hails from Helema Village in the area of Traditional Authority Changata in Thyolo while Suzumile, 28, comes from Mbenderana Village in Traditional Authority Kasisi’s area in the district.
