police in Malawi are engaging aggressive efforts to curb abuse of animal rights, Senior Superintendent Benard Chimaimba disclosed this Friday in Lilongwe at a workshop for police officers on how to handle cases of animal rights.
“It is very sad that despite the existence of laws against abuse of animal rights yet most abusers go scot free,” wondered Senior Supt. Chimaimba.
Senior Supt. Chimaimba said the law enforcers will now start apprehending people that are abusing animal rights.
Lilongwe Society for Protection and Care of Animals, an organization advocating for the respect of animal rights, believes sensitization of police and judicial officers is the key to curb animal rights abuse.
“We would like to inform the general public that mishandling of animals is an offence according to laws of Malawi,” said Programs Director for the Organization Dr. Richard Ssuna.
Dr. Ssuna observed that people that are selling kitties and puppies in streets of Lilongwe disregard the rights of animals in question.
“You see somebody in the street having a kitty from morning without feeding it. That is bad,” said Dr. Ssuna.
