CSOs demand Mutharika’s presence during a dialogue meeting

Civil Society Organisation leaders have demanded President Peter Mutharika’s presence during a dialogue meeting scheduled to take place at the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) in the capital Lilongwe.

The CSOs have also asked the government to shift the meeting to tomorrow Wednesday at 1 o’clock in the afternoon to give their colleagues traveling outside Lilongwe time.

Apart from that, the CSOs have asked the presence of Ministers and other heads of departments such as Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA),Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM), ADMARC and TEVETA.

The CSOs have also demanded the presence of Inspector General of Malawi Police Rodney Jose.

As this is not enough, the CSOs have demanded that the meeting takes place at neutral place as a measure of security.

When contacted for comment spokesperson for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Nicholas Dausi who is also Minister of Information and Communications Technology said he is yet to receive any communiqué from the CSOs.

But information at hand indicates that Cabinet Ministers are holding an emergency meeting on the matter.

Meanwhile CSOs says the invitation does not change anything in as far as preparations for the demonstrations are concerned.
