General Purpose Fund, Textbook Revolving Fund abolished in public Secondary schools

Government has abolished the General Purpose Fund, and the Textbook Revolving Fund effective January 1, 2019 in all public Secondary Schools, faceofmalawi can reveal.

Minister of Education Science and Technology Bright Msaka made the announcement on Tuesday in the capital Lilongwe.

According to Msaka, government has also abolished tuition fees in all public Secondary Schools.

Msaka said this has been done to make sure no child fails to make it to secondary school in Malawi.

Msaka says this has been done under the direction of President. Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika, an accomplished academician in his own right who wants to see Malawi develop in all spheres including education.

This in essence means both primary and secondary education are now free in Malawi.

Tuition fee was K1,500, GPF 1,500 and text book 250 per year. In total, 3,250.00 was payable per year per student.

The ban means that learners in government day schools will not be paying anything while the learners in boarding schools will continue paying boarding fees.
