Mutharika, Trump’s Photo Stirs Debate on Social Media

A photo of the country’s first couple Mr. and Mrs. Mutharika meeting with US president Donald Trump and his wife, Melania Trump has elicited mixed reactions from Malawians.

Malawi flag missing

In the photo, the two couples are seen posing together inside a lavish house which seems to be in white house in Washington DC.

However, some quarters of Malawians on social media have expressed their thoughts saying this could be a photoshopped picture to brainwash Malawians that the meeting between the two couples really existed whilst it wasn’t.

Some eye-sharped Malawians have also noted the absence of the Malawi flag in the picture of which the US flag is sen in.

One facebook user, Isaac Lumanga asked “Flag ya Malawi Ilikut boss” on the pic which was posted on one facebook group.

And since the US first lady, Melania Trump is in Africa touring some countries including Malawi, others have doubted as at which date the picture was taken since the picture has started circulating on the internet just yesterday, Wednesday, 03 October whilst the US first lady left the white house on Monday, October 1.

In August this year, MBC reporter Austine Kakande was suspended for allegedly posting a fake news picture of Mzuzu dual carriage way under construction.

He allegedly updated on the status of Mzuzu dual carriage way project but instead the state broadcaster used a photo of A30 Chiverton Cross to Carland Cross road, west Cornwall, England.

Meanwhile, the US first lady is expected to arrive in the country today after visiting Ghana on her solo Africa tour trip.

She is then to proceed to visit Kenya and Egypt as she will only be in the warm heart of Africa for a few hours.

Melania Trump will be welcomed by the country’s first lady Gertrude Mutharika who had to cut short her trip to the US where she escorted her husband, President Peter Mutharika to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
