Court rules in favour of Chilima: Registrar of political parties given seven days to register UTM

The High Court in Blantyre has ruled that Registrar of Political Parties must register the United Transformation Movement (UTM) as a political party within seven days, effective 21st September, 2018.

The judgment comes after the movement was denied registration on the basis of the name that the movement presented in its application.

The registrar accused UTM and its leader Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima of providing misleading information on the name of the movement.

Last month, the High Court Judge John Chirwa reserved his ruling on the matter after hearing arguments from both parties and he adjourned the case to today, November 2, 2018.

When the case resumed today Judge Chirwa ruled that the Registrar was not justified and that United Transformation Movement be registered within 7 days.

The ruling attracted jubilation from UTM supporters gathered outside the High Court in the commercial capital Blantyre.

Some even jumped on the floor to dance to express their happiness.

More details to come….
