Government saving alot by ignoring the use of Statutory Corporations Assets

President Joyce Banda claims government is saving about K15 every month by “not abusing statutory corporation vehicles” during political rallies.

The President said Friday in Blantyre during Independence Day celebrations special prayers that she intends to ensure successful performance of government companies.

President Banda boasts that her government prioritizes saving funds for the welfare of Malawians rather than advancing her political agenda.

“I asked the Chief Secretary how much we are saving by resisting the temptation to abuse Statutory Corporation resources and it has been discovered that we are saving K15 million every month,” said President Banda.

She said functions of Statutory Corporations should not be paralyzed because of party affairs.

President Banda’s remarks are in direct reference to tendencies by past regimes where vehicles from some parastatals were used for political party agendas including rallies.

President Banda stressed the need to separate political party functions from state events.

“You would agree with me that most of the Statutory Corporations were being abused by politicians. We therefore need to shift our mindset and all civil servants need to be in the forefront initiating these measures,” she said.
