A street boy thought to have died in a road accident reappeared in Kenya in Machakos area on Wednesday to the shock of his colleagues.
Amos Mbugua, known to his fellow streets boys as Marigiti, is reported to have been involved in a road accident in the country’s capital of Nairobi.
It is alleged that his colleagues collected the body of an unidentified victim of the same accident claiming it was Marigiti.
They lobbied the business community at the bus station where they usually spend time to help them raise funds for the burial.
Now months gone-by, the man they thought they buried has reappeared.
A street boy who spoke to NTV said Marigiti’s cousin had confirmed the identity of the body, kick starting the funds drive and burial planning.
The boys explained how they raised funds to help the family meet burial costs but were never allowed to visit the home.
Marigiti’s family in Ikinu, Kiambu County, has however denied burying their son who has been missing for 15 years.
“I am his mother and it has come as a shock hear that my son was dead. We did not bury him anywhere,” Marigiti’s mother Catherine Wanjiku said.
According to NairobiNews, the reappearance of Marigiti may fuel mistrust between the business community and the street boys as funds were raised for a burial that never took place.
Marigiti was on Wednesday returned to his home in Ikinu after his health deteriorated since he was last seen by his colleagues.
