Mutharika shuns APAM vigil at State House, off to Mzuzu today

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika will not receive a petition from the Association of People with Albinism (APAM) on 6th March as he is expected to be in the Northern Region.

Mutharika is expected to leave today Tuesday to Mzuzu.

Presidential Press Officer, Mgeme Kalirani confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

According to Mgeme, Mutharika will commission a water facility in Mzimba and undertake other government assignments in Mzuzu.

But APAM President Overstone Kondowe still insist that President Mutharika will receive the petition.

“APAM’s petition to State House is being submitted to the presidency as an office (not to APM as a person) essentially…and APM happens to be the person in that office. So with or without him the vigils at State House are still on. He will still get the message,” wrote Kondowe on his official facebook page.

Meanwhile the Lilongwe City Council has blocked APAM from holding a vigil at State House.

The Lilongwe City Council has since asked APAM to deliver the said petition to Civic Offices in the capital.
More details to come….
