Driver suspended for using an Ambulance to carry bricks

Lilongwe District Health Office (DHO) has suspended a driver for allegedly using an ambulance to carry bricks for an unknown project.

The issue came to light at the weekend when a picture circulated on social media, showing the vehicle, registration number MG599 AH belonging to Bwaila Hospital, carrying bricks in Area 36, Lilongwe.

The picture attracted public outcry with many demanding action on the matter.

Lilongwe DHO Spokesperson Richard Mvula confirmed the suspension of the unnamed driver in an interview with Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS).

“We would like to understand how it happened and why he did that. We can say many things by looking at the picture but we have to hear from his side and put proper disciplinary measures for that behavior,” he said.

Meanwhile unconfirmed reports indicate that the driver was sent by one of the top officials at the hospital.
