Overstone Kondowe appointed as leader for Persons with Albinism in Africa

Association of Persons with Albinism in Malawi (APAM) President Overstone Kondowe has been elected as Chairperson for the African Union for Persons with Albinism.

Kondowe was elected at a meeting held in Pretoria on Tuesday organised by African Disability Alliance (ADA) which was patronized by delegates from all parts of Africa.

APAM President confirmed of the development in a statement posted on his official facebook page seen by faceofmalawi reporter.

“I am greatly humbled by the confidence and trust persons with Albinism in Africa have in me. It’s not about merit but God’s favour to lead the first ever African Union for Persons with albinism.

“Credit to African Disability Alliance (ADA) and European Union (EU) for technical and financial support respectively. Many thanks to all my fellow directors and Judith (Project Coordinator) for your new challenging appointments,” wrote Kondowe.

Kondowe left the country on Monday for South Africa. His trip attracted mixed reactions among Malawians with many accusing him of ducking his fellows who are living in fear due to failure by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration led by President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.

President Mutharika also accused Kondowe of being used by the opposition political parties to take over reign of power from him.
