The Police in Mangochi have arrested 30-year-old Imran Adam on suspicion that he killed Mwanyali Wyson of 33 years old in a fight that erupted over a fishing ground at Limimbi river in the district.
Amina Tepani Daudi, a Mangochi Police Spokesperson has confirmed the development.
Tepani Daudi says the incident occurred on Easter Sunday the 21st of April 2019 at around 15:00 hours in the area of traditional authority Chimwala.
“It is reported that Imran picked up a quarrel with the deceased’s elder brother. The deceased was kicked and fell into the river when he intervened to stop the fight.”
Tepani Daudi adds, “Imran followed the deceased, stepped on his body while pressing his head under the water consequently suffocating him that he became unconscious.
He was rushed to Nandumbo Health Centre where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.”
Postmortem examination revealed that death was due to suffocation.
“When investigations are complete, Imran Adam will appear before court to answer the charge of murder which is contrary to section 309 of the penal code,” explains Daudi.
Imran Adam(30) hails from Chisawa village in the area of Traditional Authority Chimwala in Mangochi.
